Please join PGWISE for their newest installment in the PGWISE Academic Development Series: Creating Connections and Navigating Your Networks as a STEM Researcher.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Joseph Barber, Director of Graduate Career Initiatives, at Penn Career Services.
In Part 1 of this 90-minute session, we will cover networking best practices that you can leverage at any (and every) point in your time at Penn as you think about your professional and career development, from why you should network, to where you can network and with whom.
In Part 2, you will work with the presenter and your peers to brainstorm and create networking assets that you can use as part of your future networking, including 1) a new and more engaging LinkedIn headline, 2) a bio or elevator pitch to get conversations started with new connections, 3) a good email template to use when reaching out to contacts, and 4) some great questions to ask in your next informational interview. We will even do a quick, post-COVID refresher on what makes a confident handshake for your next in-person introduction. You will find it helpful to bring your laptop for the workshop activities in Part 2.
