Get Involved with GAPSA

Have your say. Make a difference.

Throughout the year, GAPSA is busy planning large-scale social events, smaller cultural and academic events, advocating for student rights with university leaders, and managing funding of student-led initiatives.

There are opportunities to get involved with GAPSA by (1) becoming an official member of GAPSA, (2) serving on a university committee, or (3) volunteering for individual events and initiatives.

Note: Application deadlines apply to the first two opportunities, whereas volunteer opportunities are available on a rolling basis.

1. Become an official member of GAPSA

Students most engaged are those who are official members of the organization as either Executive Officers or General Assembly members.

Elections for Executive Officer positions are held annually in late March or early April and any Penn graduate student may seek election. Please contact the Vice Chair (gapsa.vicechair@gmail.com) for more information. To become part of the General Assembly (GA), please contact your school’s government. Each of the individual Penn programs has a different procedure for selecting GAPSA representatives. Find out who represents your school on the GA here.

2. Serve on a university committee

Work closely with university officials as a graduate/professional student representative on one of sixteen diverse university committees: University Council, Academic & Related Affairs, Campus & Community Life, Diversity & Equity, Manufacturing Responsibility, Student Health Insurance, Facilities, Open Expression, Honorary Degrees, Privacy, Committees, Social Responsibility, Faculties, Libraries and Penn Museum.

Read descriptions of each of the committees and general duties of representatives: University Committee Descriptions 2012

To apply for a university committee seat, please fill out this form.

3. Volunteer for individual initiatives and events

We are always looking for volunteers for a host of initiatives. It's a great way to become involved and start a rapport with GAPSA.
