I am currently a second year student in the dental school at Penn. When I'm not practicing dental procedures on mannequins and studying the various scientific aspects of dentistry, I enjoy exploring Philadelphia (particularly the restaurants), and doing yoga, and puzzles of all kinds. I also love talking to and working with people, and learning about the many inspiring things that take place at Penn.

As Vice Chair for Operations, I am in charge of organizing GAPSA General Assembly meetings, including internal communication within the body and coordinating representation from each school. It is my role to ensure that each GA member is happy with and feels fulfilled in their GAPSA experience, and plan to spend the year seeking out as many ways as possible to achieve this ideal. I want to make everything in GA meetings run smoothly so this can be a fun and productive year for all involved. Hello Quakers!
I am a Master of Science student in Nanotechnology at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences here at Penn. On the academic front, my research interests include nano scale electronics, nano-biotechnology and nano-photonics. I am a native of the worlds largest democracy –India.

As the Vice-Chair for Equity and Access I strive to make sure that the voices of all the affinity groups on campus are heard. In doing so, I firmly believe that GAPSA can be a great resource for the various student groups and organizations on campus as a means to promote student diversity and improving multicultural life at Penn. Through positive engagement and dialogue I aim to achieve a synergy of diversity and pluralism across campus.

I am both excited and committed to serve the amazing graduate student body at Penn and shall leave no stone unturned to make your experiences at Penn a memorable one. Please feel free to share with me your thoughts and concerns.

Luyao Wang, Vice Chair for Communication

Luyao is currently a second-year master candidate at Penn Graduate School of Education. She had her undergraduate in China Foreign Affairs University, majoring International Study with a double degree in International Law. With great interest in communications, she came to Penn to study Intercultural Communication, and has worked in many branches of communications, including news agency, communication office of international organization and marketing department in private company.

As VC for Communication, she is in charge of all the official communication channels of GAPSA and is responsible for GAPSA public relation, news publication and event marketing, and working as a bridge between GAPSA and the Penn student body. In the following year, apart from keeping all the communication channels responsive and well-updated, she aims to add more interactive elements into GAPSA communications work, create new communications window and optimize current communication methods to make GAPSA’s voices better heard by you and your feedback better heard by GAPSA.

Qiwei Sun is currently a second year Ph.D. candidate in Network Science at Penn Engineering. Qiwei received his undergraduate degree from Jacobs University Bremen, a private international institution in Northern Germany with BSc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with minor studies in finance, economics and international business management. Though an engineer by education, Qiwei has worked in several student and professional organizations and institutions in industry practices including international relations, media, manufacture and consulting, performing tasks ranging from conference organization, project management, public relation to strategy analysis.
 
In his free time, Qiwei enjoys jogging, reading, performing/visual arts projects and classical music.
 
As the GAPSA Vice Chair, Qiwei will also be leading the Planning Committee for the GradFest 2013, chairing Select Committee for President Amy Gutmann Award, and responsible for the recruitment of the Vice Chair Committee. Interested member of the Penn community may reach him for inquiries on placement opportunities with ongoing projects at GAPSA.

As your GAPSA Chair, it is my privilege to voice the interests of the Penn graduate and professional student body to the administration. Through the University Council and the University Council Steering Committee, I will ensure that an adequate representation of concerns among the different constituencies of the Penn campus are addressed. 

For 2013-2014, my goal is to develop more effective channels of reaching out to a wider spread of student groups on campus, to further GAPSA's mission of being a diverse and inclusive organizations in all aspects of GAPSA's activities – in our advocacy agenda, funding platform, and meaningful programming. Working with my peers on the Executive Board, it is my desire to make GAPSA more transparent and engaging.

I am currently enrolled in my third year at Penn Dental, where I am studying to receive my DMD. Before Penn, I graduated jointly from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the National University of Singapore in History, specializing in Modern East and Southeast Asian History. A native speaker of Chinese, I have also twice received the Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to pursue advanced language studies in Japanese. My professional goal is to incorporate my different experiences to foster collaborative research and advocacy initiatives of the dental profession internationally.
